While I have no way to confirm, I have heard from a few subscribers that there have been various issues with the GTC site. Some returns are still “Pending”; some payments are not showing as pending though it is possible that they are – be very careful not to pay twice.
There have also been some instances reported to me of logins no longer working.

I do not know the full extent or if these are merely isolated incidences as I am posting this on Saturday when there is no one with whom I can speak at GTC today. I have been told that Monday, Feb 20th, is not a state employee holiday so the GTC should be working and sales taxes will be due. Again, I cannot confirm that information.

I will post more information as it becomes available. Please feel free to call or email me if you are also having problems so that I can continue to alert our subscribers of potential problems.

The GA DOR requires certain fonts be used in order for our forms to be certified.

Network and server software installations please take note: If you install the S-Tax software onto your server and have your workstations launching the software from a “shared” copy then, your workstations may not have the fonts installed on them. The fonts are installed onto the workstation from which you run your updates only since the update program can only register the fonts into the copy of Windows running on that workstation.

We have created a utility program that will correctly install the necessary fonts on all versions of Windows – XP, Vista, and Windows 7. This program is included with the installation and update programs – it is in your same folder as the S-Tax programs. You may run this utility as needed as it only installs fonts – nothing else.

If you prefer, you may download it at: http://www.staxpro.com/downloads/S-TaxUtility.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it.

If you have a client who has moved to another county but has most of the same assets, you can still use the features of S-TaxProperty to expedite the preparation of their return for their new county by copying the return from their old county. Here are the steps:
Changing the county for a Property tax return
1)	First roll their 2011 forward so that a 2012 return is created for their previous county (which you probably will not use)
2)	Go to the client’s record (do NOT change the county here yet)
3)	Click Returns and then click Property
4)	In the next screen that displays the year and county, change the county to be their new county
5)	Click “Yes” when you see the prompt asking if you want to copy the data into a return for the new county – a 2012 return will be created for the new county from their existing data
6)	Now, you can go back into the client records and change their home county.

IMPORTANT Change in ST-3 Paper forms:
The DOR has redesigned the ST-3 forms for this year and our forms have been approved. You will notice a big change in that the DOR now requires us to round to the nearest dollar and print without decimal places on the new form.

Paper ST-3 filers MUST use this new form and the rounding of all numbers other than Line 7, Line 13, and the PV-ST is now a requirement.

UPDATE: Our new releases – Version 02/06/12 – have an expanded menu for printing ST-3 reports. The left-most column will print the ST-3 reports with the decimals included for your convenience. These reports cannot be used for paper filers with the DOR. The right-most column prints the DOR-Approved ST-3 reports that you may submit to the DOR for your paper filers. Since few of you file ST-3 on paper, we don’t expect that you will use these new reports often but we are approved for filing these forms should you need them.

We have spent a considerable amount of time and money to become fully certified by the DOR as an Approved Software Vendor for e-file and e-pay for sales tax.

This means that you can take the returns that you create in S-Tax software and upload them directly to the GTC system, which is a huge time-saver over the GTC system – particularly for complex sales tax returns! If you haven’t already tried this upload feature, I encourage you to try it now.

We have created a simple explanation of the set up and the steps you will use, available to you at:

We now offer payment through credit cards – Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover!
We are delighted to announce that LuAnn Brown has joined our staff to assist with our credit card renewals (in addition to her many other talents)!

You may send your renewal with credit card payment information by mail or fax at 706-534-9417. We encourage you to use one of these options though we can take it over the phone. Our telephone traffic is usually quite high during this time of year so, you may be better served if you can use the fax option. Never send your credit card info via email!
We are taking all precautions to safeguard your credit card information and sending your account number through the body of an email is never a good idea. You may attach a scanned copy of your order through email for some security but fax is still the safest route.
